FUNDING APPLICATION – WHITECAP ENTERTAINMENT:

(Charlottetown, PEI) Whitecap Entertainment, Tourism Cavendish Beach and the Resort Municipality of Stanley Bridge, Hope River, Bayview, Cavendish and North Rustico have established a Destination Management Fund to invigorate development within the Cavendish area. Access to this fund is available through application to any individual, group or association that is looking to develop a tourism related product to increase visitation to the community. Applications are available now on the Resort Municipality’s website.

The Destination Management Fund was conceptualized to assist with the development of tourism related products and to improve the infrastructure and appearance of the community for the safety and enjoyment of residents and visitors alike. This opportunity is funded by a portion of ticket sales generated at the Cavendish Beach Events Centre, home of the annual Cavendish Beach Music Festival, since 2015.

The community, in this case, is defined as the boundaries of the Resort Municipality but may extend to the boundaries of Tourism Cavendish Beach in certain cases.
This fund will be distributed by a committee made up of members from each of the three partners.

“Whitecap Entertainment is very pleased to be partnering with the Resort Municipality and Tourism Cavendish Beach on the Destination Management Fund ensuring continued growth in the community and supporting infrastructure improvements for visitors and residents to enjoy” comments Jeff Squires, President of Whitecap Entertainment.
Matthew Jelley, Mayor of the Resort Municipality added: “the Municipality has always worked with its partners to bring about improvements to the community and this new partnership with Whitecap Entertainment demonstrates the organization’s commitment to the area.”

Tourism Cavendish Beach President Steve Murphy notes that: “any initiative that can bring visitors to the area or that adds enjoyment to their experience is welcomed. We look forward to seeing what this fund can do in the coming years”.

Principles for Distribution of the Fund:
• Applications which aim to assist with the development of tourism related
products and events, increase visitations to the community and to improve the infrastructure and appearance of the community for the safety and enjoyment of residents and visitors alike will be preferred. Examples are (but not limited to):
o Community infrastructures such as sidewalks, lights, etc. o Marketing initiatives
o Events

  • Applications can request multi-year funding up to three years.
  • No application will receive more than 50% of the total cost of a project.
  • Applicants must demonstrate other sources of funding.
  • The Committee is not obligated to award any or all funds in any given year,
  • Minimum project value is $10,0000

Applications will be available year-round and can be found on the Resort Municipality’s website, https://resortmunicipalitypei.com. Deadline to apply for the first round of funding is June 28th, 2019.

PEI NATIONAL PARK:

CONSULTATION MEETING:

Dear Parks Canada Stakeholder,

You are invited to a meeting to learn about options to replace the current dune crossing at Cavendish Beach in Prince Edward Island National Park on Thursday, July 19 at 6:30 pm.

The present structure has reached the end of its life cycle and requires complete replacement. It also currently does not meet accessibility standards. The new structure will allow Parks Canada to continue to meet the needs of visitors and locals who wish to connect with nature while, at the same time, protecting the fragile and dynamic dune ecosystem in the area.

A consultant, WSP, was engaged to research and develop options for the new dune crossing, including relocating it to an area less susceptible to erosion. The new pathway will be determined by examining slope requirements, dune heights, wind patterns, sand transport models and ecosystem environmental impacts. The consultants will present their design proposals and will be available to answer questions about their recommended solution.

Goals of this project:

·        Enhance visitor experience
·        Provide learning opportunity for visitors
·        Provide an accessible beach opportunity
·        Protect the coastal ecosystem, in particular the sand dunes

We are currently in the final design phase of this project and would appreciate your feedback. Your comments will help to inform the detailed design plan for the new dune crossing. Once the design has been finalized, construction will take place from mid-September to December 2018.

Cavendish Beach Dune Crossing Meeting

PEI NATIONAL PARK CONSULTATION MEETING:

Dear Parks Canada Stakeholder,

You are cordially invited to a meeting on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 for a presentation of the proposed final design for the new interpretive exhibits for the new visitor centre at Green Gables Heritage Place.

We recognize that this is a very busy time of year and apologize for the short notice, but in order to meet our timelines to open the exhibit to the public in spring 2019, we need to finalize the design by early August. To ensure as many people as possible can attend, we are holding two meetings—one at the University of PEI in Charlottetown and one at Green Gables Heritage Place in Cavendish.  Please feel free to attend the one that is most convenient for you.

Parks Canada is undertaking a comprehensive site rehabilitation at Green Gables, which includes a new visitor centre, gift shop, and café. This project gives us an amazing opportunity to revisit and revitalize the exhibits and other interpretive elements of the site. Based on the feedback received on the draft interpretive concept, as well as on the draft design concept, we would like to present the proposed final design and gather further feedback before moving forward towards fabrication.

The three main themes for interpretation at Green Gables include:
·        The factual story of L.M. Montgomery,
·        The fictional Anne of Green Gables character; and
·        The Cavendish landscape that inspired L.M. Montgomery and that plays an important role in the books.

Six further subthemes were identified during the master planning phase of the redevelopment. These have guided the development of revised interpretation and visitor experience, and include: imagination, beauty, friendship, belonging, freedom and self.

Here are the details of the meetings.

Green Gables Interpretive Exhibit Design Presentation and Discussion
Date:                 Tuesday, July 31, 2018
Time:                  9:30 am to 11:30 am
Location:         Faculty Lounge, Main Building, UPEI, Charlottetown
Note: free parking is available in any of the student parking lots and there is metered parking near the Student Union Building

Green Gables Interpretive Exhibit Design Presentation and Discussion
Date:                 Tuesday, July 31, 2018
Time:                  6:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Location:         Green Gables Heritage Place, Cavendish

Please note – Doors will open 30 minutes before the meetings and participants are invited to come early to look at the presentation materials in advance of the meeting.

Light refreshments will be served.

Please RSVP to pnipe.peinp@pc.gc.ca or by calling 902-672-6350.
